Since 1997, the Nutrition & Health Promotion Department of the Health Authority of Anguilla, formerly the Nutrition Department, in partnership with the ALHCS Home Economics, Guidance/Counseling and Careers Department have successfully planned and executed several inter-house Quiz Competitions.
This quiz competition marks the culmination of the Healthy Lifestyles School program initiative geared towards achieving the following goals:-
1. To improve the nutritional status and physical activity level of children and adolescence.
2. To improve nutritional awareness among the adolescent population in Anguilla.
Phase one of the programs was conducted from February- April 2013 during the Personal Social Health Education (PSHE) sessions for all forth form students. At this time the students were educated about a wide range of nutrition related topics as well as STI/HIVAIDS awareness; mainly utilizing video and PowerPoint presentations, with some food demonstrations and taste testing to include and excite the taste buds about healthy eating.
At the end of these sessions a preliminary quiz was administered to select the students with the highest scores who participated in the Annual Quiz Competition held on Tuesday 23 April 2013 at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium. The proceeding was moderated by Mr. Keith Stone Greaves who conducted the Quiz in a very exciting and interesting manner.
Each of the five ALHCS houses was represented by four team members who battled intellectually for three rounds. At the end of round one Nisha Dupis, Coleen Johnson and Jada Plummer vied for the title of IndividualChampion. After a sudden death tie breaker round Ms. Nisha Dupis emerged the individual champion. She was awarded with a book voucher from our sponsor Coral Reef Book Store.
At the end of round two, Orange house was declared the third place winner and received vouchers for gift baskets from the HAA. Second place went to Pink house, whose members will be treated to Lunch from the Sponsors English Rose Restaurant. Yellow house was the first place winner in the competition. Team members of Yellow house received vouchers for $100.00 sponsored by HAA to be redeemed at the Computer Superstore.

The Nutrition and Health Promotion Department would like to thank the Education Department for their support and assistance in the preparation of this Competition. The Department would also like to say a sincere thank you to our sponsors English Rose Restaurant and Coral Reef Book Store, for their valuable contribution towards the promotion of healthy lifestyle behaviour among our young people.
