To the Editor: The Anguillian
March 19, 2013
I was twice rewarded last week by attending two exhibitions on the island.
The Agricultural Open Day and exhibits were indeed inspiring. There was much to delight the senses in the various displays of vegetables , fruits and animals. Encouraging agriculture in Anguilla will not only provide much needed nutritional resources but will also help make Anguilla more self sufficient. All of us know that fresh food tastes better than foods that are shipped here from the U.S. and other parts of the world. Home gardening is more than a hobby for many people here. It is a satisfying and nourishing activity yielding rewards that include physical exercise and a sense of peace and enjoyment. Congratulations to the Dept. for its continued support of both commercial and home growers.
The second exhibit I attended was at the O.K.P.S. This exhibit highlighted some of the classroom activities contributed by the Special Needs Classrooms on the island. From preschool through High School, the work of the students was celebrated and beautifully displayed by their teachers. Thank you for the opportunity to attend these exhibitions.
