On Monday, March 11, 2013 Viceroy Anguilla officially launched its Understudy Programme. The programme is focused on human development to ensure that the company effectively grows local talent to assume positions currently held by expatriates. The programme will have three key components – Technical Skills; Managerial/Leadership Skills; Professional Qualifications.
Seventeen of the resort’s outstanding colleagues were presented with certificates of participation by the Executive Team. The colleagues were selected from the following departments – Executive Offices: Peron Sepersaud; Culinary: Fabian Ryan, Juan Williams, Marlon Martin; Engineering: Hue Carty; Finance: Darren Fleming, Geva Richardson-Carty; Food & Beverage: Kara Hughes, Leon Lake, Tracy Swaby-Richardson; Front of House: Marah Gumbs, Melisha Maccow, Nekyra Rogers; Housekeeping: Anne Mede-Connor, Nathalie Lewis, Wendy Rogers and Human Resources: Avonelle Caragliano.
The Launch Reception was attended by representatives from the Government of Anguilla, Ownership, Viceroy Anguilla’s Senior Leadership, Labour Department Representatives and various Media Houses.
At the launch, General Manager, Richard Alexander stated “This is a very historic event. We are all very proud and excited to announce the official launch of our understudy programme which has been in the making for the last three years.” Mr. Alexander noted that this highlights the company’s commitment to developing Anguillans and Anguilla.
When addressing the programme’s participants, he informed them that a great deal will be required of them. He noted that “the more they commit to the programme, the more likely they are to succeed.” Mr. Alexander pledged the company would assist and support the understudies on this incredible inspirational journey.
Roy Shanholtz, VP Asset Management & Hotel Operations, Starwood Capital Group also addressed the gathering. Mr. Shanholtz offered his congratulations to the understudies. He stated “Developing this programme is one of Starwood’s passions” and they have been working in partnership with Viceroy Anguilla’s Executive and Human Resources teams.
When addressing the understudies, he spoke about this programme being something really special for them, Viceroy and Anguilla. Mr. Shanholtz also noted this is the first of many programmes which Starwood Capital Group will roll out as part of their commitment to developing Anguilla’ s tourism. There will be special emphasis placed on partnering with the schools and Anguilla Community College.
The launch reception concluded with Marlon Martin, Culinary Department, cutting the cake followed by Hue Carty, Engineering, giving the vote of thanks.
The first year of the programme will focus on the fundamentals which will enable the understudies to be successful. With the full support of all the necessary entities, we look forward to the success of this programme.
