Children from the six Government Primary Schools and the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School won many awards in the2013 Ashley Brooks Road Race held on Sunday, March 3. The event was widely-supported by parents, guardians and other members of the public who cheered the athletes in their cycling and running races.

Family representative of Ashley Brooks & Sons Supermarket, Connie Brooks, said the event was a vision her late father had, nineteen years ago, to bring the youth together from across Anguilla to compete in a series of sporting activities.

“I want to thank all of you for coming because if it were not for the support of the athletes, the teachers and all the people, there would be no event like this,” Ms. Brooks stated. “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this event a success.”

Deputy Director of Sports, Rollins Richardson, welcomed the competing students who were placed in a 500-figure formation at the opening ceremony. He said the number represented 500 days from March 8 to the start of the Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, next year. He added that it was arranged for a photograph of the athletes to be taken and sent to the Commonwealth Games Office. That was done by the Commonwealth Games Support Officer in Anguilla, Aimee Magglacomo.

The athletes demonstrated a keen sense of competition, attracting much commendation from the spectators. The results of the various races were as follows:
