During this time of the year, when the air is filled with the sounds of love, many people normally go on an emotional roller coaster ride. Some people become very excited, some become angry and many become either depressed or sad. It is also at this time when many people tend to ask themselves: Does he or she truly loves me? What about you? Do you ask yourself that question too? Can you honestly say without a shadow of a doubt that he or she truly loves you?
You see, it is always nice when this time of the year rolls around for us to do and say nice and loving things to each other in an effort to make each other feel good, but it is another thing to be absolutely sure that that special person in our lives really, truly, loves us. Everyone wants to know that he or she is loved by that special someone and that includes you as well.
Although, these days, it seems that “love” has become only a word that is often spoken and rarely demonstrated,I can say for sure, without a shadow of a doubt that He truly loves me. Can you say that too? What evidence exists to prove it? What has He done consistently and persistently to verify it to you? When a person truly loves you, you know it because true love cannot hide – it is always revealed.
There is that person you too can say truly loves youunconditionally as well. He loves us in spite of, no matter, what we do. There is a lot of evidence that exists to prove that His love is true. That person is Jesus Christ, my friend. Evidence is there to substantiate that fact. Romans 5:8 states, “But God commendethHis love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” What love! He died for you. He shed his blood for you. Do you know of anyone who will be willing to do that for you? Is that not true love my friend?His love for us does not depend on who we are, what we have done, who we belong to or anything of that nature.
We don’t have to do anything to earn God’s love for us. His love for us does not depend on our feelings either. St. John 3:16 tells us that, “For God so loved the world, thatHe gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Scripture makes no promise that we will always feel loved, nor that circumstances will always make it obvious that we are loved, but it assures us that we are loved irrespective of how we feel. God simply states that weare loved. Scripture also points out that He loves us with an everlasting love. Jeremiah 31:3 states, “The LORD has appeared of old to me saying:“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love;Therefore with loving kindness I have drawn you.”
God’s love for us gives us security. He says He is always with us no matter where we are or where we go. Romans 8: 38-39 points out, “For I am persuaded beyond doubt (am sure) that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities, nor things impending and threatening nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” And Psalm 139: 8-10, assures us. It states, “If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.”
My friend, no suffering or tragedy will ever separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:35-39). His love is a love that is certain – not one that we ever need to question. We can say without a shadow of a doubt that He loves us and that His love will last forever.
Frederick M. Lehman penned it in song:
The love of God is greater far; Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,And pardoned from his sin.
Refrain
O love of God, how rich and pure!How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure, The saints’ and angels’ song.
When years of time shall pass away,And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men, who here refuse to pray,On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race – The saints’ and angels’ song.
Could we with ink the ocean fill,And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,And every man a scribe by trade,
To write the love of God above,Would drain the ocean dry.
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,Though stretched from sky to sky.
