Over the weekend, Victor Mooney of Queens, New York visited the Anguilla Tennis Academy, where he delivered another round of tennis gear to children in an initiative dubbed Operation Arthur Ashe. Mooney encouraged the children to never give up.
2023 marks the 48th anniversary of tennis legend Arthur Ashe lifting the Wimbledon men’s singles title. Last week, he delivered tennis gear to the American Tennis Academy (Saint Martin, FWI) and National Sports Institute (Sint Maarten, DWI).
Among other things, Mr. Mooney hand delivered a letter of appreciation to the Office of the Premier of Anguilla, Dr. Ellis L. Webster this morning. He thanked Anguilla for keeping an eye on him as he entered local waters before ocean currents brought him to Saint Martin.
Mr. Mooney’s solo transatlantic row started from Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, which is an archipelago located off the coast of West Africa. After recovering from an 80-pound weight loss and hull damage caused by an oceanic white tip shark, he continued to New York’s Brooklyn Bridge.
His mission was to encourage voluntary HIV testing in memory of his brother that died of AIDS.
Mr. Mooney returns to Saint Martin on Wednesday.
