The Teachers’ Resource Centre was abuzz with excitement for The University of the West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla annual Certificate/Recognition Ceremony on July 25th to conclude the academic year 2022/2023. The ceremony featured three celebrations: completion of the Continuing and Professional Education programmes, recognition of the Semester
One and Two 2022/2023 Online Honour Roll Students and the induction of the new Student Guild Executive. Friends, family, and colleagues came out in large numbers in support of students. Also in attendance were education representatives, UWI tutors, and members of The UWI Alumni Association Anguilla Chapter.
Manager for The UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks chaired the programme, and in addition to congratulating students, expounded on the various community and workplace needs that are met through the delivery of the local professional development and online programmes.
In delivering his congratulatory remarks, Chief Education Officer Mr. Bren Romney applauded students for their foresight in engaging in tertiary education and their commitment towards continuing education. He also encouraged that full advantage was to be taken of all opportunities afforded at The UWI. Mr. Romney further acknowledged the efforts and presence of tutors who continue to dedicate themselves towards the cause of developing our most valued resource.
Forty-seven (47) certificates were issued to participants who successfully completed Continuing and Professional certification in Supervisory Management, Human Resource Management, Healthcare Management, Mental Health Policy Development, Care of the Elderly, Project Management, Early Childhood Education Care and Development, Governance Risk Compliance and Controls.
Fifty-two (52) online degree students who were named to The UWI Open Campus Honour Roll for Semesters One and Two 2022/2023 were presented with special recognition Certificates for their outstanding achievements. Honour Roll students had to be registered for at least three courses per semester and an earned minimum GPA of 3.6.
In her responses on behalf of the CPE Students, Mrs. Linette Carty gave some insight into exciting discussions and course work and the applicability of skills learnt. She also expressed appreciation to the tutors and the Staff of The UWI Open Campus Anguilla for their guidance and support.
The new Student Guild Executive is chaired by Marva Smith and includes Stephanie Ryan- Vice Chair, Sherine Brooks-Secretary, Shermel Hodge-Public Relations Officer, Kericia Ault- Treasurer and Twayna Thomas-Committee Liaison Officer. The Executive will serve for one year and will be responsible for promoting and fostering the educational, social, economic and cultural interest of Guild Members.
Mrs. Charlene Roach of The UWI Alumni Association Anguilla Chapter rendered a musical tribute, while Mrs. Cherry-Ann Casimir-Hodge, Facilitator for Supervisory Management delivered the invocation.
A special presentation was made to Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks by members of Staff of the UWI Open Campus Anguilla. Dr. Fleming-Banks was presented with a plaque in appreciation of her years of dedication and service to The UWI in various capacities. It was met with a standing ovation.
The UWI Open Campus Anguilla congratulates all the students and expresses its appreciation to this year’s Facilitators, Mrs. Cherry-Ann Casimir-Hodge, Mrs. Tracelyn Hamilton, Ms. Deborah Jn Baptist, Ms. Cassandra Ryan, Ms. Sharon Richardson, Ms. Denise Roberts, Ms. Marguerite Joseph and Mr. Colin Jenkins. Appreciation is also extended to all those who participated in the programme and to the Anguillian community for their support during the past academic year.
