| The Vector Awareness and Control programme in Anguilla, currently in progress by the Environment Health Unit, is being funded in the amount of EC$12,000 by the Caribbean Commercial Bank (CCB), one of two indigenous banks on the island. |
The presentation of the cheque was made by Branch Manager of the West End Branch, Wade Richardson, on Tuesday, October 6. CCB has been the platinum sponsor of the Vector Awareness activities for seven consecutive years. “In our small society, it is commendable that the Department of Health Protection, through the Environmental Health Unit, recognises the importance of partnerships, or the linking of hands, to fight a good cause – protecting the health of our community,” Mr. Richardson said. As a successful financial institution, with a commitment to the wider community, the Bank is ever ready to participate and offer support for many a good cause such as this one.” Mr. Richardson said that, despite financial constraints, it was important for CCB to remain active in whatever capacity, to continue to promote vector awareness on the island. He paid tribute to Michael Christie, a student at the Orealia Kelly Primary School, the winning artist of the Poster and Theme Competition, for his rallying slogan, “Stand Tall: Do Not Crouch: Let’s Get Rid of the Cockroach”. Senior Environmental Officer, Leroy Richardson, said that as a result of CCB’s assistance a number of vector control programmes were successfully completed. He hoped that other donors would join in sponsoring various areas of the campaign. Other speakers were Senior Environmental Officer, Oliver Hodge, who provided information on the vector control programme, and Vincent Carty, Supervisor of the Vector Team. |
