Executive Council recently approved relaxed protocols for persons traveling to Anguilla. These measures are in keeping with government’s plan to exit from the COVID-19 pandemic in a responsible and sustainable way, and reflect the changing epidemiological situation of the pandemic in Anguilla.
Beginning Friday 1st April 2022, the following travel requirements will be in place for all visitors and residents who wish to travel to Anguilla:
Entry requirements:
– Anguilla remains a vaccination only destination. All visitors over 18 years will need to be fully vaccinated with an approved vaccine. The Government of Anguilla has also reduced the time to be considered fully vaccinated after completion of the primary does of the vaccine to more than fourteen days.
– All fully vaccinated travelers to Anguilla who are 18 years and older will no longer need to apply for permission to enter the island via the ivisit Anguilla travel portal.
– They will still need to present evidence of full vaccination status with an approved vaccine and a valid negative COVID-19 test result. The approved tests are an NAA/PCR/RNA test taken within 3 days of travel or a rapid antigen test taken within 2 days of travel. This information must be presented to the aircraft, ship, agent or fixed based operator personnel, and again upon arrival in Anguilla to port health staff. Regulations of Anguilla will prohibit boarding if these documents are not presented to aircraft, ship, agent or fixed based operator personnel. It will be an offence to enter Anguilla without these documents.
– Arrival testing will be discontinued for persons who have been fully vaccinated within the last six months and for persons who have taken a booster dose more than fourteen days prior to arrival.
– Vaccinated adults, and minors, who were fully vaccinated more than 6 months prior to the expected date of arrival, but have not had a booster dose, are still considered fully vaccinated and will not need to apply for entry via the portal. They shall, however, be subject to testing on arrival.
– Unvaccinated visitors under 18 years old are only permitted to enter Anguilla if fully vaccinated travelers accompany them. They shall also be subject to testing on arrival.
– Vaccines are now approved for use in pregnancy, consequently the exemption for pregnant women has been removed and pregnant visitors are now required to be vaccinated.
– Unvaccinated visitors who may have a contraindication to the vaccine, as stated in US CDC/WHO/U.K. guidance, may apply for a medical exemption to enter Anguilla.
Individuals who fall in this category will be required to apply on the entry portal. If a medical exemption is granted, the visitor will be required to test upon arrival, quarantine for 5 days, test at the end of quarantine and exit quarantine pending a negative result. Accordingly, the fee is USD$100 per person.
– Persons arriving into Anguilla without the appropriate documentation, for example proof of vaccination or test results, shall be required to return to their country of origin. If this is not possible, they shall complete arrival tests, be quarantined for 5 days at their own expense, complete exit tests, then be required to leave the island. Each visitor that is allowed to quarantine shall pay the Government of Anguilla a fee of USD$200 in addition to any fines for unapproved entry.
The following apply to Anguilla’s returning Nationals (Anguilla Passport Holders) and Residents (Anguilla Resident Stamp holders, Work permit holders, Retired Homeowners).
– Fully vaccinated returning residents will no longer be required to apply for entry on the ivisit
Anguilla travel portal once presenting evidence of full vaccination with an approved vaccine and a negative COVID-19 test; NAA/PCR/RNA test within three (3) days of travel or a rapid antigen within two (2) days of travel. This information is to be presented to the aircraft, ship, agent or fixed based operator personnel before boarding and again on arrival to port health staff.
– Arrival testing will be discontinued for returning residents who have been fully vaccinated within the last six months and for persons who have taken a booster dose more than fourteen days prior to arrival.
– Vaccinated returning residents, who were fully vaccinated more than 6 months prior to the expected date of arrival, but have not had a booster dose, are still considered fully vaccinated and will not need to apply for entry via the portal. They shall, however, be subject to testing on arrival
– Unvaccinated returning residents will be required to apply on the entry portal, test on arrival, quarantine for five (5) days, test at the end of quarantine and exit quarantine pending a negative result. An entry fee of US$100 per person will be payable.
– Unvaccinated returning residents under five (5) years old, who are accompanied by fully vaccinated travelers, will not be required to quarantine, but a Day Four (4) test will be administered
From 01 April 2022, the wearing of masks will not be mandated. However, we encourage individuals, employers and organisations to do their own risk assessment in maintaining safe practices and continue to wear masks if they consider themselves vulnerable.
Be reminded that handwashing and the maintenance of good respiratory hygiene remain the best ways to protect against contracting COVID-19 and preventing its spread.
The relaxation of protocols does not mean we are immune to COVID-19. Vaccination remains the most effective form of protection against severe disease and death. Vaccination and booster doses are still available and increasingly are a requirement for travel.
