Russia’s continued assault on Ukraine and their unconscionable attacks against civilians, maintains the resolve of the international community in condemning the Russian government and its flagrant breach of international law and the UN Charter.
Across the world, in lockstep with each other, efforts continue to implement severe economic sanctions and restrictions to defeat the Russian government’s regime, and those who support their endeavours.
In Anguilla, in consultation with the National Security Council, I have put in place measures that give effect to the UK Sanctions that restrict entities and individuals connected to Russia from using our banking or financial services, doing business including any land transactions, or entering our airspace and territorial seas.
On Monday 14 March 2022, the National Security Council met with relevant leads from the Ministry of Finance, the Anguilla Financial Services Commission and the Forensic Investigation Unit as part of our continued efforts to ensure the effective implementation of the sanctions.
Following the meeting, the Hon. Premier Dr. Ellis L Webster and I, joined counterparts from the Overseas Territories to discuss the response of the Overseas Territories with the UK Minister of State, the Rt Hon. Amanda Milling MP. Minister Milling recognised the vital role of the Overseas Territories in global finance and our efforts to stand united with our neighbouring islands and the wider international community against the Russian government’s regime.
I ask for your continued prayers for the people of Ukraine as they seek safe refuge in the face of devastating loss and attack to their nation.
