A mysterious grey wooden boat was found on Thursday morning, February 17, in the vicinity of Captains Bay off the north-eastern coast of Anguilla. The 25ft vessel was discovered by fishermen brothers, Vernon and Patrick Webster of Island Harbour.
It is reported that Vernon first spotted the craft with his binoculars. He noticed that no one was on board. He, along with Patrick, then quickly set out to retrieve it.
Indeed, there were no passengers on board. The vessel, which appeared to be in good condition, was drifting from east in a northwesterly direction. The two brothers toured the vessel into Island Harbour Bay.
The boat bears no name or identifying emblem that would indicate its origin. One Yamaha 40 outboard engine was attached to its stern, and several items were found on board, including clothing, adults’ and children’s shoes, water containers, back-packs, flotation tubes and other personal effects.
Authorities from the Royal Anguilla Police Force and the Customs Department have taken the boat to Police Headquarters in the Valley, and its origin and discovery are being investigated.
