The Pan American Health Organization, in conjunction with the Ministry of Social Development, presented the residents of the Miriam Gumbs Home with a flat screen Smart TV on Wednesday, November 10th.
In making the presentation, Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Bonnie Richardson-Lake spoke to the occupants of the home: “The reason why we are here today is to donate to you this new television. This was made possible by the Pan American Health Organization — through funding by that organization. We know that the pandemic has been a difficult time for you all. You are not getting as many visitors as you have been used to, so we hope that this TV would be of great help to you.”
WHO’s local representative, Mrs. Valerie Beach-Horne, told the residents: “On behalf of the PAHO/WHO representative for the Eastern Caribbean, Dr. Yitades Gebre, Dr. Lawrence Williams and the team who worked on this, I would like to hand over this television set to this home.
“PAHO’s mission is to help to improve the lives of the peoples of the region, and we hope that this is one way in which we can improve your lives here. It gives me pleasure to be part of this handing over, and I want to thank the Ministry of Social development for inviting PAHO to assist in this small way. So I hope you all will enjoy your new TV.”
In accepting the gift, the Home’s Head Nurse, Ms. Coreen Hodge, responded: “On behalf of the clients and the Staff of the Home, I would like to say thank you very much for this kind gesture. Of course, we did have a television before, but it stopped working, and we had to take it down recently. So, this gift is timely indeed, and we appreciate it. It will serve for the betterment of our clients’ wellbeing.”
Two other seniors’ homes received TV donations from PAHO. These were the Rosewood Home in East End and the Tender Loving Care Home in North Valley.
