As Anguilla remains in the top five Caribbean destinations of choice, the island’s Parliamentary Secretary, Tourism, Mrs. Quincia Gumbs-Marie, has congratulated St. Vincent and the Grenadines for being voted Best Island.
Speaking in the Anguilla House of Assembly on Tuesday, September 14, she said: “Madam Speaker, I would like to publicly congratulate St. Vincent and the Grenadines for winning Best Caribbean Island this year.
“We know the year that St. Vincent has had in terms of the volcanic explosion. We know that when we won Best Caribbean Island in the region we were just emerging from Hurricane Irma. We knew the importance that meant to the industry to signal that we were open. We also knew the importance it also meant to the people of Anguilla to ensure that they felt an increased morale; and so I am happy that St. Vincent and the Grenadines is experiencing that. As a region we all depend on tourism, and so I am happy that, particularly at the time when persons may not have been considering that country, because of what happened there earlier [in terms of the volcano eruption], they had something to signal to the world that St. Vincent is open. I congratulate all the other countries – but I am very happy that we in Anguilla are still in the top five [of 25 islands]. I am also very happy about the meaningful work we have done because, while receiving awards is exciting, receiving results is more efficient, better and lasting. I am happy we are producing results…”
