Two of the main vendors of vegetable produce and fish normally seen under the former tamarind tree, at the roadside, just west of the Pro-Cathedral of St. Mary, are complaining about having been removed to inadequate accommodation.
They are now faced with selling their goods and services on the steps of the Peoples’ Market which was left without a roof by Hurricane Irma since September 2017.
“Look at where we are,” the female vendor said, pointing to the bare sky. “This is not nice for us, and something needs to be done here urgently. They told us to move from under the tamarind tree and this is no good place for us.”
It is not known how long this situation will continue, but the Minister of Natural Resources, Mr. Kyle Hodge, has promised to have the Peoples’ Market fully restored as part of the nearby road redevelopment project.
According to him, when that is done, all vendors will be required to use the Peoples’ Market as their main selling point in The Valley area.
