The Valley, ANGUILLA: Staff members at the Department of Youth and Culture in the Ministry of Social Development, were extremely disturbed to learn of recent vandalism and theft at the Landsome Bowl Cultural Centre (LBCC). On Thursday 15 July 2021 preparations were being made to ready the facility for the hosting of upcoming dance recitals when the unfortunate discovery was made. The property had been illegally accessed, and wanton destruction of the electrical network was observed, including the digging up of the conduits and the stealing of electrical wires.
The full extent of the destruction was not fully realised however, until the morning of Tuesday 20 July when the electrician engaged to do an evaluation, was able to do a comprehensive site visit and damage assessment.
This is the second time in the last 2 years that the LBCC has been broken into, with the previous incident resulting in damage to doors and the theft of air conditioning units. There have also been previous such unfortunate incidents, all of which result in a severe financial burden on the Department of Youth and Culture/Government of Anguilla, and by extension the people of Anguilla.
The break-in has been reported to the Royal Anguilla Police Force, and we are appealing to anyone who may have observed any unusual or suspicious activity at the facility over the last four months, to kindly report it to the Police as soon as possible.
