TONS OF SAND/MUD FROM ROAD BAY NEW JETTY WORK

Road Bay New Jetty underconstruction

The new cargo jetty at Road Bay, Sandy Ground, is progressing steadily. It is being funded at a cost of thirteen million US dollars provided by the UK Government.

The new pier extends about 187 metres out to sea and is some 10-15 metres longer than the existing jetty, about 70 meters to the north.
The contract involves a joint venture agreement between Kelectric & Associates of St. Vincent and Edgehill & Associates of Barbados. The project is being financed under the UK Conflict Stability and Security Fund.

So far, all the over 400 piles have been driven into the seabed, and the steel platform, of which a section has already been poured with concrete, continues under construction.

Meanwhile, tons of sand, as well as probably mud, are seen in large heaps at the land base area of the jetty – and east of the Road Pond. How useful these mounds of sand and mud will be for the construction industry is anyone’s guess.
