Within two days out of quarantine, the newly-appointed Governor of Anguilla, Ms. Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, toured the Princess Alexandra Hospital on Saturday, January 30.
She was accompanied by Premier and Minister of Health, Dr. Ellis Webster; Head of the Governor’s Office, Mr. Colin Hicks; Deputy Governor, Mr. Perin Bradley; Permanent Secretary, Health, Mr. Foster Rogers; and the CEO of the Health Authority of Anguilla, Mrs. Maeza Demis-Adams.
The tour the enabled the Governor to meet some of the medical and health personnel and to see the various improved equipment and other facilities funded mainly by the UK Government.
Asked about her impressions, the Governor told The Anguillian: “Honesty, I really think that everyone has done such a creditable job – not just as a construction job but from a patient perspective, and also in respect to the working environment for the staff.”
Among other matters, she spoke about the natural light coming into the building, saying it was part of the heart of the design providing a more comfortable environment for patients, staff and visitors. She also praised the collaborative teamwork which went into the entire refurbishing work.
Premier Dr. Webster commented: “I think the Governor’s visit showed her commitment to healthcare. I have always said that the healthcare of a nation is paramount. The Governor chose to visit the hospital to see the upgrades that have been done since Hurricane Irma, and to make sure that it is ready for the COVID pandemic and we have an isolation area for that. She also came to thank the health workers for putting themselves on the frontline, and their lives in danger, to take care of our people.
“I am happy that coming out of quarantine, she chose the Princess Alexandra Hospital as the first place to visit. She will also be going to the districts to talk about the COVID-19 vaccine and other matters.”
