The University of The West Indies (UWI) Open Campus Anguilla wrapped up Part One of its Protocol and Diplomacy course with a special Business Dinner assignment at Ocean Echo Restaurant on January 18, 2021. Facilitator, Mrs. Rosena Brooks, stated that the event allowed participants to demonstrate the knowledge and skills that they had gleaned during the intensive six-week course.
The dinner was hosted by participants: Mrs. Janine Edwards, Ms. Anthea Roach, Mrs. Amorelle Bryan-Hodge, Ms. Kay Belle, Ms. Eusvon Brooks, Mrs. Tavia Nelson-Connor, Ms. Sourisa Webster, Mrs. Judica Connor, Mrs. Shellya Rogers-Webster, Mr. Carl Thomas and Mr. Carlton Pickering, who highly commended the course and the Facilitator. According to the participants, the course was “an eye-opener” for them, increasing their awareness of their behaviour, as well as the conduct of others in formal and informal situations. “It has provided us with the tools and the confidence for exercising diplomacy in personal and business dealings,” they said.
The course is designed to take persons beyond the basic aspects of business etiquette and help them develop their personal leadership skills and included topics like Business Etiquette, Image Management, Dealing with the Press, Ceremonial Behaviours and Table Etiquette. Noting that even in times of conflict, there is still a great need for protocol and diplomacy, Mrs. Brooks, who is well-known for her expertise in protocol training, said that the sessions revealed that there are number of areas that we need to address on Anguilla. “This course sensitised participants on the importance of protocol and diplomacy in all relationships in official and unofficial situations, whether at home, work, school or in the community. Overall, it emphasised that respect for God and each other is extremely important for harmonious living,” Mrs. Brooks said.
Manager for the UWI Open Campus British Overseas Territories, Dr. Phyllis Fleming-Banks, was the guest of honour at the dinner. In her expressions of appreciation, she congratulated the participants and applauded them on their excellent execution of the assignment event. She also used the opportunity to thank and commend Mrs. Brooks for the superb delivery of the very relevant course. Dr. Fleming-Banks also offered special thanks to Ms. Sharon Richardson, who assisted Mrs. Brooks in the assessment of the evening’s event.
The enthusiastic participants have indicated that they are eagerly looking forward to Part Two of the course, as it will include the creation of a proposed Protocol Procedure Manual and Order of Precedence for Anguilla.
