It was a proud moment for the Anguilla Community College when 213 students were presented with Certificates of Attainment on January 16 at the Rodney MacArthur Rey Auditorium. The event was a Recognition Ceremony.
The students, mostly young people aspiring to greater learning opportunities, have completed various short courses at the college under the tutelage of a number of lecturers drawn from the rank and file of the teaching fraternity and the community.
Deputy Chairperson of the Community College’s Board of Governors, Mrs. Amelia Vanterpool-Kubisch, speaking to the large crowd said in part: “The theme for this ceremony, is ‘Celebrating Achievements: Igniting the Passion for Learning’. “For some students, this is just the beginning. For others, it is a continuation. Some 130 persons will be receiving certificates. Some are young, others are a little bit older, but this speaks to the Anguilla Community College’s statement which is ‘the ACC for everybody.’
She applauded the students on behalf of the Board of Governors and particularly on behalf of the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr. Ronald Harrigan, and the President of the College, Dr. Kenneth Williams, both of whom could not be in attendance.
She read a statement from Dr. Harrigan in he said: “I join with all others in congratulating the recipients of certificates on your successful completion of the short courses of study at the ACC. Your participation and achievements clearly showed that the ACC is fulfilling its mission and obligation in meeting the educational and training needs of the Anguillian community. I also wish to extend a heartfelt thank you to our faculty for the excellent job you have done for all participants as you strive to enhance the professional development of all Anguillians.”
A past student of the college, Ms. Sierra Richardson, offered words of encouragement to the students and congratulated them on their success.
The presentation of certificates and awards was conducted by the Dean of Studies, Dr. Michelle Queeley, and a number of other persons associated with the college, including Board Members. Dr. Queeley explained that the event was not a graduation which will be held later in the year.
A number of persons and organisations were also awarded for their partnership with the Community College. Among the awardees were Mr. Stanley Reid and Mrs. Charmain Rey-Richardson.
The ceremony was aptly chaired by Mr. Vanburn Brookes, a noted master of ceremonies.
The delightful event was enhanced by a presentation by Dance Factory, a group of young ladies under the direction of Mrs. Kerchell Jn Charles-Hodge.
