NEW GOVERNOR COMMITTED TO ANGUILLA’S PROGRESS

Ahead of her arrival, the newly-appointed Governor, Ms. Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, has assured the people of Anguilla that she is committed to the progress of the island.

This would be a fulfilment of their hopes – not only in terms of infrastructural and economic development – but human capital as well.

She made the commitment to Anguillians in a New Year’s Message following the departure of Governor Tim Foy, OBE, who completed his three-and-a-year service to the island on December 30, 2020.

Hoping that her message would find all the people of Anguilla safe and well, the Governor-Designate wrote:

“It is a great honour and privilege to serve Anguilla as its next Governor. While these are difficult times globally, I am very much looking forward to working with Anguilla’s communities, Premier Webster, [other] elected representatives and Deputy Governor, Perin Bradley, in support of all areas of the country’s life and a prosperous future.

“I would like to thank my predecessor, Governor Foy, for his support in helping me prepare for the role. I am committed to ensuring that the progress that was made under his Governorship continues at pace.

“I am ready to leave the wintery shores of London for the warmer climes of beautiful Anguilla. Following my arrival next Friday [January 15], in line with entry requirements, I will spend my first 14 days in quarantine. Nevertheless I will be starting work in earnest albeit remotely. I will be sworn in (via video link) on Monday 18 January 2021 and have a full schedule of meetings planned including Executive Council on Thursday 21 January 2021.

“Following quarantine, I am very much looking forward to getting out, meeting as my people as possible and learning more about life on the island.”
