The Government of Anguilla has been granted thirty million EC dollars by the United Kingdom Government to bolster the island’s public finances from January to March 2021.
This is in addition to the 100 million EC dollars which Anguilla received from the UK Government during 2020 to meet the budgetary shortfall as a result of local expenditure to combat the Covid-19 disease.
The monetary assistance for the first three months of 2021 was announced in the Anguilla House of Assembly by the Premier and Minister of Finance and Health, Dr. Ellis Webster.
In expressing gratitude for the funding, he later told The Anguillian newspaper that the grant to Anguilla was mentioned in a letter to him from Lord Ahmad, Minister for the Overseas Territories.
Lord Ahmad recently succeeded Baroness Liz Sugg, CBE, who resigned in protest of the decision by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Rishi Sunak, that foreign aid expenditure would be cut from 7 percent to 5 percent.
