Twenty-three persons comprising Chairpersons and Directors of various Boards across Anguilla, as well as Senior Staff of Public institutions, are currently participating in three days of robust training in Leadership and Good Governance during the period 16 -26 November, 2020.
The training is delivered jointly by the Anguilla Community College (ACC), and the Institute for Leadership and Organisational Effectiveness, an accredited institute of the University of the Virgin Islands. In providing context for the training, Dean of Studies at the ACC, Dr. Michelle Queeley, indicated that the training is a fitting response to government’s mandate for all persons serving on Boards to be formally trained so as to ensure effective public and statutory board management in Anguilla. Dr. Queeley added that it is important for participants to understand the principles and best practices that govern Board operations, including Board roles and functions but, more importantly, that they be equipped with the leadership competencies for strategic decision-making.
Accordingly, three broad areas are covered in the training, each divided into a number of sub-topics. They are, 1) Purpose, roles and responsibilities of Governance Boards; 2) Effective Governing Boards; and 3) Board Operations.
The training is delivered by a quartet of highly qualified and well experienced facilitators either in the field of education, leadership development, and public governance or a combination of all. They are: Dr. Haldane Davies, Vice President of the Business Development and Innovation Division of the University of the Virgin Islands; Dr. Kenneth Williams, President of the Anguilla Community College; Mr. Quincy Harrigan, former Principal and Head of the Department of Education in St. Maarten as well as former Dean of Studies at the ACC; and Mr. Stanley Reid, Principal of SER Legal and Consultancy Practice and former Deputy Governor in Anguilla.
Training is delivered using a blended approach, that is, a combination of face-to-face interaction with the local facilitators as well as via zoom, an online platform, with the oversea facilitator.
Upon completion of the training, participants will receive a UVI accredited certificate bearing the seal of both the Anguilla Community College and the University of the Virgin Islands.
This is the third time that the ACC has taken the lead in proving Board Governance Training in Anguilla.
