The Eleos Centre – A Family Support Ministry, an outreach ministry of the Methodist Church, held its 6th annual Pre-teen Girls Programme from 24th to 28th August 2020, under the theme: “You are fearfully and wonderfully made”, based on Psalm 139 v 14.
The programme was co-ordinated by Mrs. Civilla Kentish and Mrs. Janice Hodge, both members of Methodist Family and The Anguilla Lions Club. Mrs. Kentish is also the acting Manager of the Eleos Centre.
The programme covered a range of topics including : Spiritual Wellness by Ms. Merline Barrett, Dealing with Strong Emotions by Ms. Monique Rey, Healthy Eating by Ms. Robertha Campbell, Financial Management by Mrs. Keisha Brooks, Ettiquette by Mrs. Janice Hodge and Ani Villas, Character Building, Coping with Physical Body Changes by Mrs. Civilla Kentish and Expression in Art by Ms. Christie Webster.
Activities included large group discussions, role plays and practical sessions which included preparing healthy snacks and place setting for lunch and dinner. Snacks were donated by members of the Methodist family and the Anguilla Lions Club. Lunch was provided by Ani Villas, which was organized by Mrs. Sherille Hughes, in lieu of the usual visit to Paradise Cove on the Thursday.
The evaluation revealed that the eleven girls not only enjoyed the fellowship of their peers, but made new friends and learnt new strategies to use when making decisions and preparing healthier alternative snacks.
The chairperson of the Eleos Centre, Mrs. Hyacinth T. Hughes, challenged the girls to put into practice the information gathered during the week -especially those ideas on spirituality and seeing themselves as ‘wonderfully and beautifully’ made by God and also to share with family and friends.
Mrs. Hughes would like to thank the parents of the girls for allowing them to attend the week’s activities., and the many supporters and well -wishers of the Centre for the contribution of snacks and other supplies to the programme.
