One of the churches in Anguilla, which still has to be rebuilt, following the destructive force of Hurricane Irma in September, 2017, is Shemei Tabernacle of Seventh-day Adventists at Long Bay. The longstanding church building was so severely damaged that it had to be demolished – leaving the membership stranded without a formal place of worship.
They, however, are continuing to worship either at the Jireh Tabernacle of Seventh-day Adventists at Lower South Hill or at a private residence. If not, some of the members travel to the Mount Fortune Church as an alternative at times.
Saturday, July 18, was a difference for the Long Bay SDA members. They chose to use the opportunity of their Women’s Ministries Association’s gathering to have what they called “A Nature Church Experience”. They sought and obtained permission to gather on the seacoast veranda at Altamer’s closed beach restaurant at Shoal Bay West for a fellowship service.
The event provided a chance for them to stroll along the curved beach which, during the tourist season, is a delight for visitors at Altamer Hotel as well as the neighbouring Covescastles Hotel, both of which are closed.
For the Long Bay SDA members, the service and their beach walk were an enjoyable outing; and, with the absence of tourists on the beach, theirs were the only footprints in the sand.
