As the election campaign intensifies in Anguilla, there has been a call for all politicians, and all other persons on the island, to put an end to division, hatred and evil.
The call, to his own colleagues, supporters and well-wishers, was made by Premier Victor Banks while concluding a virtual meeting of his Anguilla United Front Government on Tuesday night, June 2.
This is what Premier Banks said:
“Fellow Anguillians, this election campaign will no doubt be my last as a candidate for election. I am grieved over the way politics has become in Anguilla. Our politics today is very tribal. There exists a level of evil, hate, anger and division in Anguilla, today, all because of politics.
“As I said before, this must stop. We must replace evil with good; hate with love; anger with even-temperedness – as we seek to create true unity among us, Anguillians. Not unity based on self.
“So I am here calling, first on my own AUF members, supporters and well-wishers alike, to cease and desist from all acts that are causing or fuelling this hate, anger and division among us. We must at all times show love.”
Premier Banks added: “Fellow Anguillians, the AUF will run a campaign based on the truth, and the facts, and we began tonight. Our record is the evidence for making our case. We are proud to know that our tenure has made Anguilla a stronger and more robust economy than we met it in 2015. The issues will be our focus. We will endeavour to rise above the fray – and stay focussed on our positive message for, indeed, it is our purpose to move Anguilla onward, united and blessed.”
