Hon. Premier Mr. Victor F. Banks paid glowing tribute to the late Hon. James Ronald Webster, Leader of the Anguilla Revolution, Anguilla’s First Chief Minister and Father of the Nation on the observance of his birthday – March 2nd a public holiday.
Reflecting on the life and legacy of Mr. Webster, Premier Banks noted the commemoration of his birthday – as a national holiday – is intended to allow us to demonstrate our gratitude for his contribution to our homeland Anguilla. “In his typical humility, the late Mr. Webster asked several years ago that we do not make a fuss about this day dedicated to his honour but, even as we recognize the unselfish reasons for his request, it is important that we do not risk the possibility that his contribution to the development of Anguilla be diminished in any way by acceding to the dictates of his humility.”
Undeniably, Mr. Webster’s leadership created the momentum for the success that we in Anguilla enjoy today. Every Chief Minister has worked with Mr. Webster in some capacity. Mr. Webster is the central figure in shaping our path and aspirations to nationhood.
Premier Banks heralded Mr. Webster’s vision for Social Security as his most transformational accomplishment as it promotes social justice and security of present and future generations of Anguillians. Mr. Webster’s resolve was to pursue the greater good, as he envisioned it, that led to the success of the Revolution and implementation of the Anguilla Social Security System.
