Greetings to All Anguillians at home and abroad. Today, 2nd March 2020, is James Ronald Webster Day. This is the day we set aside to honour the birthday of the Father of the Nation. James Ronald Webster was a visionary leader who believed in the talents and abilities of the Anguillian people and, along with other brave Anguillians, secured the self-governed democracy that we enjoy today. The Anguilla Revolution is a pivotal moment in our history – a rich history which we must preserve and teach our children so that their memory and sacrifice will live on for future generations.
As Anguillians, we should all be proud to share in this legacy. James Ronald Webster, as Chief Minister, along with other brave leaders, laid the foundation for our economic development and prosperity for all Anguillians. James Ronald Webster delivered real representation to the people, as an Elected Member of the House of Assembly, and we are eternally grateful to the significant achievements that we have made under his esteemed leadership.
It is my hope that, as Anguillians, we will continue to recognize the powerful contributions that our citizens have made over the years and to cherish their memory. This is one such occasion and I am humbled to lend my voice to this cause. We have a great history in this country that should be celebrated always. Let us not become complacent. Let us not forget that the freedom we enjoy today was borne on the backs of Anguillians who fought for us and our children’s future. We must be eternally grateful to them, pray for them and their families, and do all that we can to honour them.
As you go about your activities today, I urge you to pause, reflect and share in the blessed memory of James Ronald Webster. Tell your children about the sacrifices that he made as one of our National Heroes – and let us work together to continue this amazing legacy, as leaders in Anguilla, to always put service above self.
May God bless us all, and may God bless Anguilla, always.
