NAGIO Insurance has made a further contribution to the funding of the Nurse Cadet Programme in Anguilla. The latest donation, made on October 5, was EC$9, 300.00.
In accepting the cheque, Director of Health Services/Quality Management, Serene Carter-Davis, said the Nurse Cadet Programme was now in its third year.
“We started the first year with twenty-two Nurse Cadets. Last year we had twelve and this year, another twelve: eleven females and one male,” she said. “NAGIO has consented over the past three years to assist us with the Nurse Cadet Programme. The company is again helping us with our young people.
“The programme not only looks at health and nursing issues, but at having more rounded participants for the well being of the society. In addition to being taught health subjects, they are lectured on various civil matters as well.”
Director of Nursing Services, Vernette Webster-Connor, oversees the operations of the programme. She said that the theoretical and practical training sessions were being held at the Princess Alexandra Hospital for the Nurse Cadets. “We have eight instructors teaching them throughout the year. The training includes infection control, nutrition, various other aspects of nursing and etiquette. Although nursing is the focus, we want to expose the cadets to other health services such as the laboratory, the pharmacy, the department of radiology and so on. We are the operational end of the training.”
The cheque was presented by Carlyn Carty, Agency & Customer Service Administrator, who was accompanied by NAGIO’s Health Administrator, Imogene Reid-Connor. Ms. Carty said the insurance company was pleased with the progress of the Nurse Cadet Programme.
“We will continue this year to contribute to the enhancement of the youth sector and the development of health in Anguilla,” she added. “We are honoured to assist this programme going forward with a cheque for $9,300.00.”
