The Government of Anguilla continues its interagency preparedness and response efforts to the Novel Coronavirus threat declared by the WHO as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern:
• The Government has recently implemented measures at ports to ascertain travel history to China for all passengers arriving at ports of entry.
• Furthermore, effective immediately, health professionals will be stationed at main ports of entry to assist in the screening of passengers.
• The Government of Anguilla has also notified surrounding countries of its travel advisory and requested their assistance in informing persons wishing to travel to Anguilla.
• Persons found to have travelled to China within the last 14 days will be placed under active observation through quarantine. Quarantine is a process by which persons who may have been exposed to a disease but who have no symptoms of the disease are kept away from other people until the incubation period of the disease has passed.
The Ministry of Health continues to work with the Health Authority of Anguilla to prepare the health system to deal with any case of the novel Coronavirus. We urge the public to always share travel history with your healthcare provider.
Persons are reminded of that preventative hygienic measures include
• Frequent handwashing especially after contact with ill persons and their environments
• Covering of coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues or clothing and
• Avoiding close contact with persons suffering from acute respiratory illness.
The Ministry of Health again notes there are currently no cases of the novel coronavirus on Anguilla or in the Caribbean.
The Ministry of Health, your official source of information for this event and all health-related matters, will continue to provide timely updates as they become available. For more information, and in an effort to counter rampant misinformation, contact Dr. Aisha Andrewin, Chief Medical Officer at 497-3930.
