In October, the Anguilla Community College welcomed a new cohort of students for ACC 6th Form. ACC 6 was first piloted in 2016 and its programming is built around the BTEC Level 2 in Hospitality, Construction and Business with plans to introduce BTEC Level 2 qualifications in Creative Media and Level 3 Construction in 2020.
ACC 6th Form runs over the course of a year and a half and started with an orientation session led by Mrs Tamara Pradel who plays a coordinating role for ACC 6. Orientation was followed by an immersion experience called My First Semester which is taking pace right now. This semester aims to strengthen students in fundamental areas such as literacy, numeracy, informational technology and general awareness of the fields that they will be pursuing. This press release is in part an output of a writing class where students were asked to produce a press release on ACC 6.
In speaking with some of the students they said, “We chose the ACC because it has a wider variety of offers, subjects, and the tutors are remarkable (they make learning creative, memorable and inspiring.) Another reason for choosing the ACC is to further our education and move forward with our careers.” Some ACC 6 students also indicated that they first became aware of the programme at ACC’s College Fair which was hosted at the Anguilla Community College earlier this year. They also said that family members, social media and the ACC billboard were factors in their choice.
Others stated that they were attracted to ACC 6 because the BTEC programme offered by the ACC has international recognition that could enhance opportunities to access continued education elsewhere. They said that this offering opens up options for immediate work as well as long-term career choices.
ACC President, Dr Karl Dawson also recognised the work put in by members of ACC faculty and staff who took to the airways in September to promote the offerings and also made follow-up calls to encourage individual students and he congratulated the ACC 6 students who participated in the Press Release development. These students include Shellon Rouse, Sherelyn Lorenzo-Ruan, Sedu Bradshaw, Johnita Mahabil, Semone Proctor, Sherron Richardson, Darien Baptiste,
Ayinde Hodge, Seandre Connor, Remieko Rogers, Devon Williams, Ruquelle Gumbs and Ryjhon Charles.
