On Anguilla, it seems like everyone knows someone in the hospitality industry but not every child is able to watch their parent at work. On Friday, August 23, Nevaiya Simpson was able to see her dad Travis Simpson, and her grandfather Ralph Simpson doing their jobs at Four Seasons. Her father is the Lead Lifestyle Assistant in the Residential Department, while her grandfather is a painter in Engineering.
Fifteen other children participated in the resort’s first “Bring Your Child to Work Day.” Employees who have received recognition through guest comment cards, or had been awarded the “Employee of the Month” were invited to bring their child to work during this year’s event.
The children ranged in age from 5 to twelve years old. From 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. they were able to learn about the resort’s various departments including the following:
• Security process – how to work a fire extinguisher
• Landscaping – how to create an herb garden
• Culinary – how to make a pizza with a Chef
• Engineering – how electricity works, carpentry on saws, tools
• Laundry — how a BIG hotel folds its towels in a special machine
• Housekeeping – how to clean a window
Four Seasons has more than 20 departments and employs more than 600 employees. It is the largest hospitality employer on the island.
“We were thrilled to showcase our resort and the importance of the hospitality industry on Anguilla,” stated Christine Albertson, Assistant Director of People and Culture at Four Seasons. “We hope this will inspire the children to pursue a career in hospitality plus, it was a super-fun way to show the children what their parents do every day.”
