Two local construction companies signed contracts in the Executive Council Chambers on Monday afternoon, August 19, under the Anguilla Programme.
One was for a new building of eight classrooms at the western block of the Orealia Kelly Primary School. The two-storey building will be the first of three construction phases at the school.
The contract was awarded to Mr. Vincent Proctor of Proctor’s Construction. The work is to begin shortly and will continue while the existing sections of the school will be occupied by students.
The second contract was awarded to Mr. Claudius Connor of Linkus Construction. It entails work on doors, windows and tiling at Campus B of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. This follows a bigger project on the refurbishment of the roof of the Rodney MacAuthur Rey Auditorium at Campus B done by Brother B’s Construction which was also funded under the Anguilla Programme.
The signing of the contracts was overseen by the Minister of Education and Home Affairs, Mrs. Cora Richardson-Hodge. Mr. Karim Hodge, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Infrastructure, signed on behalf of the Government of Anguilla. The Deputy Governor, Mr. Perin Bradley, signed as a witness.
Meanwhile, with the additional work at Campus B, that section of the Comprehensive School will continue to be in operation, while a new building will house Campus A and its other sections including W.I.S.E (Workshop Initiative for Support in Education) and the Pupils’ Referral Unit.
Campus A will be built on 17 acres of Government-owned land in The Quarter, north of the Omololu International Institute where there will also be an athletic track. The Master Plan for the redevelopment of the school was done by Design Collaborative, a Barbadian company. Hopefully, more information about the building of the school will be available during the coming month.
Construction work is also expected to begin in the near future on the Adrian T. Hazell Primary School and The Valley Primary School – as well as on a completely new building for the Morris Vanterpool Primary School at East End.
