In an effort to meet the educational needs of varied students, the Anguilla Community College plans to add Creative Media & Information Technology to its slate of offerings in September 2019 for students enrolling in ACC Sixth Form (ACC-6). The Creative Media programme will feature Interactive and Creative Media Production, Digital Graphics and Computer Game Development. According to Mrs Tamara Pradel, Director of Technology at ACC, the introduction of new programming is in response to interests identified by ALHCS students who attended ACC’s College Fair earlier this year.
The ACC Sixth Form programmes are all offered through the British accredited BTEC (Business and Technology Education Council). BTEC focuses on applied studies with conceptual underpinnings. In addition to Creative Media, ACC-6 students can also pursue studies in Construction, Hospitality and Business. Students enrolled in these programmes are given free tuition through the support of the Ministry of Education.
ACC-6 caters primarily to students who have completed fifth form at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School and wish to pursue a path in technical and vocational education to achieve their life’s goals. ACC-6 is also open to students in the ALHCS 6th Form who want to take a ‘mix & match’ approach, combining some CAPE along with some BTEC qualifications. BTECs at ACC-6 run over a 16 month duration and students achieve a Certificate or an Extended Certificate in their area of study.
In line with its new tag line “ACC for Everybody”, the College also encourages young and more mature adults – who may have completed high school and want to gain formal certification or who want to re-skill for new jobs – to take advantage of the ‘Second Chance’ opportunities to complete shorter BTEC single unit certifications (3 to 4 months duration) specifically in Electrical Installation, Plumbing, Carpentry , Food Preparation and Food Service. Courses are reasonably priced and Belongers of Anguilla receive a discount.
Applications are currently being received for these and other programmes at the Anguilla Community College. Submit an application form or contact the ACC on (264) 498-8395, 497-2538, info@acc.edu.ai or through the website www.acc.edu.ai
