The Blowing Point Community Group, whose main spokesperson is Ms. Marie Connor, has expressed delight with the overall success of the August Wednesday Boat Race and Beach Party which were heavily funded by a number of sources.
The group, which among other things, aims at celebrating its outstanding seamen, boat-builders, boat-racing captains and crews, has just put on its biggest August Wednesday Boat Race and Beach Party.
While members of the group occupied themselves with coordinating the twinned events, the Elected Representative for the Road South District, Mr. Curtis Richardson, was tasked with raising the necessary funds. He was able to collect donations amounting to some US$6,500 for the sponsorship of the racing boats – and US$5,500 for the beach party.
In presenting the cash prizes and trophies to representatives of the winning boats, the Chairperson of the Anguilla Boat Race Association, Ms Atreme Pemberton, said in part: “We thank all the sponsors of today’s race. We thank Mr. Curtis Richardson for his dedication and hard work in finding the prizes which made my job a little easier. I must say that Curtis is a true leader.”
The prizes were distributed by Mr. Lennard Bennett and Ms. Winnie Connor, members of the Blowing Point Community Group. The presentations were as follows:
First prize, Real Deal: US$1,500 from Howard Rosen and Curtis Richardson – and from Belmond Cap Juluca one-night’s stay for two with breakfast, lunch and dinner. Second prize, De Wizard: US$1,400 from Howard Rosen and Innovative Development Group – and from CuisinArt one-night’s stay for two with breakfast, lunch and dinner.
