Premier Victor Banks, and Parliamentary Secretary Tourism, Mr. Cardigan Connor, are in New York this week for two joint events.
One is for Mr. Connor to accept an award, from Travel & Leisure on Tuesday, July 16, for Anguilla as the winner of the title “Best Island in the Caribbean” for the third consecutive year. This will be followed by a special thank you meeting, with investors and other stakeholders, to be held by Premier Banks who is officially the Minister of Tourism.
“The trip to New York is a combination of things,” Mr. Connor told The Anguillian newspaper. In my case, as the de facto Minister with responsibilities for Tourism, I will accept the award for Anguilla for the third year running with great pride – with our Premier there as well to add that little special word. He is the official Minister of Tourism, but has given me the de facto title.
“The day after we had a cocktail function sponsored by the Anguilla Tourist Board. It was to thank all the stakeholders, those who made investments in Anguilla and loved the island over the years…
“This will give the Premier an opportunity to thank them for their investments and other assistance thus far and to discuss with them how we can work even closer going forward – in which we all have a vested interest. It is pretty much the Premier’s vote of thanks to all.”
Mr. Connor explained that in addition to Anguilla’s third award presentation to him, there were nineteen other awards to be presented. These included awards for Best Airline serving the region, Best Hotel, and other categories. He said that Frangipani Resort in Anguilla had been voted number 2 hotel this year, and that a new hotel in the Turks & Caicos Islands had taken the first place position.
Premier Banks and Mr. Connor were proceeded in New York by Mrs. Donna Banks, Chairperson of the Anguilla Tourist Board
