Last Friday, the 14th of June, was a day of festivity, starting from 7:00 a.m. The Principal and staff of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School celebrated the 60th birthday of the Deputy Principal of Campus B, Mrs. Octavia Melsadis Fleming.
In theme with Mrs. Fleming’s upcoming trip in the summer, a setting with nautical inspired decorations was created to celebrate this milestone. Notably, this birthday also marks Mrs. Fleming’s retirement from the Anguilla Public Service which gave another layer of meaning to the cruise-themed décor. Not only would she be “cruising into 60” but also “cruising into retirement”.

Among her gifts were a hand-bag and suitcase packed with travel-sized essentials and two t-shirts – one donning one of her famous sayings, “At my age…” and the other “Cruising into Retirement.” At the centre of it all was a two-tiered cake, baked and decorated by one of her colleagues – and a fabulously designed board that paid homage to the many nuances of Mrs. Fleming like the various roles she fills and her interests, including interior design and art.

To top it all off, Mrs. Fleming and several staff members danced through the remainder of the day humming to the tune “All Aboard” by Atlantik.
