One of the largest sweet potatoes to be reaped in recent times was harvested over the weekend by Lindon Hodge of the Hodges Farms in The Farrington.
The potato which weighs 12.26 pounds was found beside one of the walls of his home where it had been getting surplus water from a drain.
Lindon was preparing the soil for planting when rain falls and came across a crack in the earth which he thought was due to the extremely dry conditions.
He began to dig around the crack and much to his astonishment had to dig and dig until he finally unearthed the monster potato.
Lindon and his brother, Ivor, reaped over 200 pounds of potatoes in their back yard gardens in February and March this year.
They hope to reap an equivalent or greater amount later this year once the rain begins to fall.
Lindon says plant a seed and let it grow. He plans to show the potato before cutting it up for seed.
