It was the quiet evening of Friday, August 24th, and it would have appeared as if Isaac, on his way toHaiti, had stolen all the wind from the atmosphere to leave the weekend night balmy and calm. Calm? Well, except for the fact that under the pulsating sound of anointed music, the No-Walls Church auditorium in the Farrington gradually became packed to capacity, until there was “standing room only” for scores of gospel music enthusiasts. What had happened was… fromTrinidad, Curtis Jordan was in town.
Cutis Jordan, a devout young man still in his early twenties, is easy to be naturally admired for his love of Christ and his care for his fellow youngsters. He is winning the hearts and minds of our young people all across the region, as he projects himself to youth as a young model of the Christian faith. He had been in Anguilla about two years ago, and here he became popular for his signature song, “Trust Me”. It was then that he had promised he would be back to give back to our community.
So, this year, Curtis chose Anguilla as his first stop on tour, and dedicated himself last Thursday, when the storm was raging on its way west, to conduct a highly appreciative workshop for youths with the theme “Dare to be Different”. Some twenty-three ambitious youths braved the storm and made themselves available at the church to benefit from his teachings and his advice; his encouragement; and his challenges to face a society where to be Christian is not to be cool.
But it was not to be only the young, for people of all ages were blessed by the “free” Friday night concert ministry of Curtis Jordan. Supported by the promoting agency New-Life Promotions, under the organizational leadership of Kaseem Ford, and the musical direction of Evans Brooks Jr., Curtis was able to pull off what might be considered as the most successful gospel concert of 2012 to date.
The highlight feature of his performance was the indelible ringing of the tune “I’m Alive”. This hit captured the attraction of the entire audience, and evolved as the crowning “one for the road”, while the concert slowly ground to a hesitant halt. At the end of the night’s event, our youths were, for the most part, more inspired and motivated to uphold the principles of Christ. Thank you, Curtis!
