Extensive repair work is to commence shortly on the building housing the offices of the Governor, Deputy Governor and the Executive Council Chambers at Old Ta, Anguilla.
That information was released to reporters at the Governor’s press conference by Mrs. Kim Cutler, Deputy Head of the Governor’s Office, on Monday, January 14.
“The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has agreed to do repairs to this building which will start very shortly. We are looking at the end of this month and the beginning of February,” she stated. “We are currently looking at ways in which we can work around the work. It is going to be fairly expensive in terms of foundation work, poles [columns] and, of course, the roof will be redone.”
Mrs. Cutler, who did not disclose the price of the contract, explained that during the repairing of the office building, the nearby Government House will be used as a temporary substitute.
Both the ageing office building, and Government House, the official residence of the Governor, were severely damaged by Hurricane Irma in September 2017. Government House is scheduled to be demolished in due course. As a result, temporary residence has been provided for the Governor at Sea Feathers, on the south-east coast of the island.
