November 30 th , marks the official end of the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season. This season was above average in activity and it is noteworthy that for the fourth consecutive year hurricane activity began prior to the start of the season.
This season closes with 15 named storms, 8 of which were hurricanes.
Many of us in Anguilla are relieved that the season has ended without any direct impact to the island. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for other islands in the region and our thoughts and prayers remain with them.
We have come a long way from the devastation experienced last hurricane season and commendations are extended to all for their unwavering spirit and the efforts placed towards increasing personal resilience. Thanks are also extended to the UK Government,
Government, Statutory and Private entities for the work done to strengthen our national resilience. We have proven that together when we make the effort we can make Anguilla a more resilient and safer place in spite of the hazards that we face.
The Department continues to urge you to remember the 3 B’s – Be Aware, Be Informed and Be Prepared. We remain ready and willing to assist how we can. Remember the Anguilla Warning System and sign up to receive timely alerts for pending threats at www.ddmaxa.org. For questions or further information please contact us at the Department of Disaster Management at 264-497-2926.
On behalf of the National Disaster Management Committee, the Director and staff of the Department of Disaster Management, we would like to wish you all a Merry and blessed Christmas season filled with peace, safety, love, and a hazard free and Happy New Year.Department of Disaster Management 29 November 2018.
