Jovial Barry and Kohn Richardson departed Anguilla for Dallas, Texas, on October 20th 2018 to undergo one week of intense training under the guidance of Chris Wade. The trip was organized by Founder of the Anguilla Tennis
Academy (ATA), Mr. Mitchelle Lake.
The purpose of the trip is two-fold. Firstly, to expose Jovial and Kohn to greater levels of junior competition in their quest to obtain tennis athletic scholarships. Secondly, to further develop some important technical areas of their tennis game that will enable them to achieve success both at junior ITF competitions and at the college level.
Kohn Richardson commented, “I would like to thank the management and staff at the ATA, and T Bar M, for affording me the opportunity to train at T Bar M and learn new things. It is definitely a privilege to be here and I plan to take full advantage of this opportunity and gather as much as I can. With the lessons learnt, I plan not only to apply them to my tennis game, but also throughout my life.”
Both players engage in six (6) hours of on court high performance training, with some of the top junior players in Texas, daily. Chris Wade, Athletic Director at T Bar M, conducts the training sessions and provide private lessons to help improve their technical skills, and match play strategy. In addition to their on-court training, both players work out for 45 minutes in the gym daily to enhance their strength and conditioning.
When asked about his experience, Jovial Barry noted, “I am really excited to train in the United States at the Tbar M Tennis Academy. The training is intense. However, I am looking forward to the improvement of my tennis game. I am grateful to the Anguilla Tennis Academy for providing this experience and opportunity.”
Founder of the ATA, Mr. Mitchelle Lake, expressed sincere thanks to Mr. Chris Wade, the management and staff at T Bar M, and host parents for their continued support towards the development of participants in the Anguilla Tennis Academy program.
