Recipients of packages during Operation: Back To School

Taizdaze Charity is a new, registered charity organization, based in Anguilla, which has a current mission of ensuring that each student is able to attend school with all the tools necessary to maximize his/her potential in the classroom. The harsh reality is that many students are lost along the way as a result of disadvantages such as economic hardships.
Within 3 months of being founded, the charity has completed its first initiative titled: Operation Back to School. In early June, the organization reached out to each primary school on the island with intentions of compiling a list of students in need of assistance, as it pertained to school supplies for the 2018-2019 school year. Orealia Kelly Primary and Morris Vanterpool returned lists for 68 and 29 bags respectively. All bags were presented to the principal, and some teachers, of each school on Friday, 31st August, 2018. A special thank you to Miss Akilah Thompson and Mr. Michael Skellekie for their assistance with the lists.
The remaining bags were made available to the public and collected on Saturday, 1st September, 2018 at the IWAS Grounds (Headquarters of the platinum donor – Vita Malt).
For Grades K – 3 students the packages included: 1 backpack, 1 pencil case, 4 pencils, 16-pack of crayons, 2 folders, 2 erasers, 3 black & white composition books, 1 dome sharpener, 1 glue stick, 1 ruler and 1 scissors.
For Grades 4 – 6 students the packages included: 1 backpack, 1 pencil case, 4 pencils, 6 pens, 12-pack of colored pencils, 2 folders, 2 erasers, 3 spiral notebooks,, 1 dome sharpener, 1 highlighter, 1 glue stick, 1 ruler, 1 protractor, 1 compass and 1 scissors.
Fundraising was the most challenging part of the initiative. It was through the benevolence of the donors that the vision of the Taizdaze Charity was brought to fruition. The executive board had limited time but was able to meet the goal of 98, the minimum required to cover the lists provided. It was truly amazing to be able to surpass the goal and assist 150 students – and the recipients showed immense gratitude.
