Three persons from West End, one of them a former resident, having died recently, have been praised for their acts of service. Commenting on them, the Elected Representative and Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Cardigan Connor, said:
“There are three people who played an active role in boat racing and also at Connor’s Park (site of the August Thursday Meads Bay boat races). Vincent (Jungle) Liburd, who recently passed, was one who, from day one, helped us with the clean-up of the park. Over the last five years he has been the person responsible for helping us to prepare the park. He was also a member of the crew of the Speed & Comfort racing boat. We send our condolences to his family and friends. The boat racing fraternity would like to give support to his family in their time of need.
“Delvin Fleming was also a crew member of the Light & Peace racing boat for a number of years. He came from very much a sailing background. His uncle and his father were all boat captains. He is heading off to Guadeloupe for an operation which is quite expensive so we are looking to hold a fundraising event to assist with the cost of his treatment.
“We are also thinking about Joseph Hodge, whom we call ‘Wong Ping’. He is also very ill. They are all close to our hearts and we will do all that we can to help them and their families in their times of need.”
