Anguillian craftsman and swimming pool specialist, Cheddi Richardson, has again undertaken the training and certification of a number of employees who are now in a stronger position to carry our remedial and specialised work on pool facilities throughout the island.
In Anguilla for the training were Mr. Hulio Canas of Premix Marble Plate, a company with two manufacturing plants in Central and South Florida, and his co-worker, Lowell Aleson.
“On this occasion we came to Anguilla to support Cheddi who, with his company, Pool Tech, has done a terrific job doing pools with different colours and textures of plaster finish, and river rock pebbles, in a very creative and artistic way,” Mr. Canas stated. “The purpose of the trip was to train and certify Cheddi’s crew so that they can definitely expand the business to customers.”
Besides coming to Anguilla, Mr. Canas said his Florida-based company had worked in various other parts of the Caribbean. “Our training is geared to customers who want to take their services to the next level in terms of quality,” he explained. “Sometimes we can bring crews to the United States as well. With our training they are definitely able to improve the level of their skills and become more familiar with the products used in their work, and how to apply them properly.”
Cheddi, a very talented, responsible and respected young man, commented: “One of the things the trainers have done to help us is the techniques involved in the pool work,” he stated. “The workmen have developed better techniques for what they have been doing before and in terms of timing. They can now do the pools at a quicker pace and with a better finish. This is because they have been trained in applying two different kinds of pool finishing stones, as well as acid washing in a very skilful and professional manner. We are not just looking at working here in Anguilla but outside the island – and to be certified.”
Cheddi’s work on pools is an island-wide specialised service. “My clients are all persons and companies having pools,” he said. “We do a lot of finishing work in pools and, being in the business, I also sell pool supplies. We work with villas, hotels and various private persons with pools.” He added: “There are seven persons in my crew, and depending on the size of the pool we bring in other workers to assist us.”
Cheddi expressed gratitude to the Florida-based company for its training assistance over a two-day period last week.
