The Rotary Club of Anguilla was represented by six Rotarians who attended the 2018 Rotary District 7020 conference. The conference was held in Haiti from 22 to 27 April, 2018 with 504 Rotarians representing Rotary clubs from 11 Caribbean countries which make District 7020.
At the highly competitive and prestigious district awards ceremony, Anguilla captured two distinguished awards: one to the Rotary Club of Anguilla for Outstanding Achievement Under Adversity and the other to The Interact Club of the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School for being a part of “Rotary Making A Difference”
President of the Rotary Club of Anguilla Mrs. Jacquie Ruan, proudly received the award on behalf of the Interact Club which after such a short time, has really made an impact in Anguilla.
In September 2017, 7 of the 11 countries in District 7020 were ravished by hurricane Irma. In the aftermath of this disaster, Rotarians throughout the district fully devoted themselves to the motto of “Service Above Self.” With aid from District 7020 and friends, the Rotary Club of Anguilla was able to provide significant relief to many affected families, followed by hosting the children’s Christmas fun day on 19 December, 2017. Over 1800 children’s families from pre-school and primary school received a turkey or ham and a Christmas gift with a lot of assistance from Interactor’s. It was a lot of fun.
The Interact Club was chartered in December 2017 with 42 members and was pinned on the 29th April. President Kyrleson Lewis and his fellow Interactors have been a force to reckoned with from the inception. The club has already conducted many projects. On Valentine’s Day, they delivered fruit baskets to senior citizens’ residences sponsored by Mr. Karle Woodley, Culinary Department Head and the Rotary Club.
The enthused youngsters are now planning a flea market scheduled for 19th May at the agricultural grounds spearheaded by The Rotary Club. The funds raised will be contributed to the two students who have written an essay. The winners will go to the World Affairs Seminar in June in Wisconsin, which The Rotary usually pay for but this year, after Irma, it is a challenge. All schools are invited to have a table and sell food, clothing, household items whatever, they can to raise funds for their own schools wish list.
The Rotary Club is pleased to announce the good news that our 200 years old, Ebenezer Methodist Church in The Valley will soon be ready to peel out the sounds of a Celebrated Sunday service.
The Rotary Club of Anguilla continues to place great focus on the areas of youth and education, as the two immediate projects being undertaken are (1) build an elevator at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School to assist special needs students and (2), two students, to attend the annual World Affairs Conference to be held in Wisconsin 23-29 June, 2018 under the theme: “Innovation: Shaping the World You Will Inherit”
The 40 year anniversary and change of board will be a Gala this year to be held at the Cuisinart Hotel and Spa. It will be a splendid affair.
The Rotary Club of Anguilla meets every Thursdays from 6 pm – 7 pm at Roy’s Bayside Grill in Sandy Ground. The Interact Club meets every…Friday at campus A.
