Ms. Kemoloy Murphy, Chapter Chair of the UWI Open Campus Anguilla Guild of Students, was inducted as a UWI Student Today, Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) Ambassador on Wednesday, April 4th, 2018 via a Virtual Induction Ceremony.
The ceremony, is the first of its kind for the Open Campus, saw Ms. Murphy joining twelve students being inducted to serve in the Regional Student/Alumni Programme. Special remarks came from Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Densil Williams on behalf of Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Sir Hilary Beckles and from Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr. Luz Longsworth.
UWI Student Today, Alumni Tomorrow (STAT) Ambassadors are the Vice-Chancellor’s Student Representatives on all four campuses of the UWI. The programme, which is organised and coordinated by the Institutional Advancement Division (IAD) at The UWI Regional Headquarters, provides students with opportunities to engage with fellow students across the region and around the world. It also offers the Ambassadors a variety of experiences to enhance their education and develop their leadership skills through involvement in campus, community and alumni activities.
The main objectives of the programme are to:
– To promote the UWI, foster “Pelican Pride” and loyalty to Alma Mater
– To encourage Caribbean integration and CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME)
– To promote HIV/AIDS prevention in the Caribbean
– To promote Disaster Mitigation and Risk Management in the Caribbean Region
BOT Manager, with responsibility for the UWI Open Campus Anguilla, Dr. Phyllis Fleming Banks, has congratulated Ms. Murphy on her achievement. “We are pleased that Ms. Murphy is utilising this opportunity to serve as a STAT Ambassador,” she said. “This is a very important personal achievement for Kemoloy and for the Anguilla Site as a whole, and we salute and applaud her as she continues to make strides for Anguilla and the UWI Open Campus.”
Ms. Murphy is an active member of the UWI Open Campus Anguilla Student body. She has served as the Guild Chair for the past two years and is currently finalising her Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Studies. She plans to continue her studies with the UWI Open Campus, by reading for the Master of Science in Development Studies in January 2019.
