Bass Heads Car Club in Anguilla is not just about showing off exotic vehicles, with built-in blaring musical systems, but is also involved in such activities like community clean-up campaigns.
Vice President of the Club, Damien Barker, explained that to The Anguillian newspaper over the past weekend. He and his colleagues were at the time busily cleaning up the parking lot area of the James Ronald Webster Park.
“The Bass Heads Car Club has decided to be a more community-minded organisation and not just about making noise on the road from flashy cars,” he told the newspaper. “This year we are really starting some community projects particularly around Stoney Ground and Little Dix, our home communities.
“We usually have weekend events here at the parking lot. At least once a month owners of cars come here to play music, and so we are cleaning up this area as it looks like an eyesore. We also decided to clean up the entire parking lot as there are some sporting activities next week. We are basically trying to make the place look a little better. This is just the first of many activities we plan for the year – to give back to the community and to expand on what we usually do.”
Barker serves as Deputy Director of Disaster Management but is finding time on weekends to engage in voluntary community work.
He is among over twenty young people involved in the Bass Car Club. The President is Rob Petty, who transported the debris collected at the Webster parking lot to the Corito Landfill.
