Boys and girls at soccer camp's opening ceremony

The Anguilla Football Association’s stadium came alive early on Monday 16th July as nearly 300 children gathered for the kick off of the 2-week long soccer camp. The children, ages 4 – 17, are taught the fundamentals of football such as passing, heading, dribbling and shooting. “The emphasis of the program is not on learning the skills or learning the game.” Mr. Colin Johnson, Program Coordinator, remarked. “The emphasis is on having the children play football and have fun.”  Mr. Johnson was assisted by other senior football players and coaches who instructed the various groups of children.

Practicing of foot skills

Now in its 18th year, the AFA Soccer Camp originated in Blowing Point as an initiative to keep children engaged in positive activities over the summer break. Since then it moved to Sandy Ground before coming to its current location at the AFA stadium. Organised and sponsored by the Anguilla Football Association, the summer camp has been free for children since its inception. The children also receive free T-shirts and refreshments during the course of the camp.
