As Belmond Cap Juluca Resort in Anguilla recovers from the impact of Hurricane Irma, and is proceeding with its renovation and expansion work, the management and ownership have taken time to award three Security Officers for their diligence and protective duties.
The awardees, who were presented with Certificates of Appreciation on Wednesday, November 22, are employees of JTR Security Company, retained by the resort.
General Manager of Belmond Cap Juluca, Mr. Tiargo Sarmento, commended the security officers for remaining on the property during the hurricane. He was of the view that there was no better time to recognised them than now – especially when a team of executives of Belmond Cap Juluca was in Anguilla.
“On the night of the hurricane, there were five gentlemen who stayed on the property,” he said. “They were brave enough to leave their families behind and hold the fort.”
CEO of Belmond Cap Juluca, Mr. Roeland Vos, who is based in Amsterdam, said the company never had an idea about how serious the hurricane would have been until its aftermath and he joined in expressing appreciation to the security officers. “It is only afterwards that we realise how much courage it took for you guys to stay on property and to do what needed to be done,” he told them. “I just want to take a moment to thank you for doing that. The first word we had was that our people were safe and sound after the event. It took about forty-eight hours before we got any confirmation of that fact, but I think having people like you on the spot gave us the comfort that at least everything here was under control and I want to say a very big thank you for that.”
Speaking generally, Mr. Vos commended the employees for their efforts and interest in salvaging as many of the belongings of the resort as was possible and for doing other voluntary work, thus creating a feeling of family and pride. “I think it was heart-warming and I felt very proud to be part of that family. I want to thank you for doing what I think is one of the core values of what we stand for,” he said.
He intimated that despite the hurricane, and the need to spend more money on the property, Belmond Cap Juluca would not only be one of the best resorts in the region, but in the world.
