Friends of the Hospital, a 38-year-old local non-profit voluntary organisation, last Friday presented a cheque for five hundred US dollars (US$500)to Mr Ralph Hodge, acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Princess Alexandra Hospital, to help with its dialysis unit.
Accepting the monetary gift on behalf of the hospital, Hodge praised Friends of the Hospital Prseident, Ms. Audrey Brooks, and the other members of the group for assisting the health care services in Anguilla.
” It is not the size of our contribution in every instance that really counts. It is the intention behind the contribution,” Hodge remarked.
He noted that Audrey Brooks had led by example in the Anguillian community when it comes to giving back to the community. Hodge said, “She has not failed, throughout the years, to give service to this hospital whether it is by raising funds for us, whether it is by giving of her time to come to the pharmacy and work – acts which are extremely exemplary.”
The senior hospital official said that Ms Brooks could not do it all by herself and also lauded the work of the other members of the organisation.
In her response, Ms Brooks noted that the members of the Friends of the Hospital were pleased to make the monetary donation to the Health Authority of Anguilla for the ” good of the community.”
She pointed out that every year, during the month of March, Friends of the Hospital host a fundraising event dubbed ‘the coffee morning’. Ms Brooks used the opportunity to publicly thank all the well wishers and friends who supported the fundraising activity.
Members of the group include the Governor’s wife, Mrs. Harrison who is the Patron, Ermine Austin ( Treasurer), Bernice Hill (Secretary), Alicia Brooks, Marie Richardson, Jennifer Richardson, Denise Graves, Dr Brooks and Ginelle Jones.
As Ms Brooks commented, Friends of the Hospital are always open to new members.
Among those present for the short handing over ceremony, in the hospital’s conference room, were Mrs Meridith Gumbs, Head of Human Resources, and Mrs Vernetta Connor-Webster, Head of Nursing Services.
